Lake Schluchsee is situated in the heart of the Upper Black Forest, surrounded by natural attractions, charming towns and family-friendly experiences. Here are our ten favourite excursion destinations, all easily accessible from our holiday apartment.
1. Feldberg – Highest Peak in the Black Forest
Just 20 minutes by car, the Feldberg towers at 1,493 metres. In summer, panoramic hikes and the Feldberg tower with 360-degree views await. In winter, 30 kilometres of slopes are ready. With the Hochschwarzwald Card, you ride the Feldberg bus for free and use the lift in the Feldberg tower at no charge.
2. Wutach Gorge – The Grand Canyon of the Black Forest
The Wutach Gorge is one of the most impressive natural gorges in Germany. The main hike from Schattenmühle to Wutachmühle (approx. 13 km) leads through narrow rock gorges, over wooden boardwalks and past waterfalls. Sturdy footwear is a must.
3. Titisee – The Black Forest's Most Famous Lake
About 25 minutes by car or S-Bahn (free with the Hochschwarzwald Card), you reach Lake Titisee. The lakeside promenade invites you to stroll, boat trips depart regularly, and in the town you will find the famous cuckoo clock shops.
4. St. Blasien – Cathedral and Spa Town
The impressive cathedral of St. Blasien with its enormous dome is only 15 minutes away. The monastery and old town are worth a visit, as is the Kolleg, one of the oldest schools in Germany.
5. Todtmoos – Wellness and Hiking
The climatic health resort of Todtmoos offers excellent hiking trails and wellness facilities. The waterfall circuit trail is particularly beautiful and also suitable for children. The pilgrimage church in the centre is a baroque gem.
6. Freiburg im Breisgau
The Black Forest capital is reachable by car in about one hour. The Minster, the historic old town with its famous Bächle (small water channels) and the Freiburg market make an ideal day programme. Freiburg is considered one of the sunniest cities in Germany.
7. Badeparadies Schwarzwald (Galaxy Titisee)
For rainy days or a wellness day, the Badeparadies Schwarzwald at Titisee is the perfect choice. Slides, wave pools and an exclusive palm area – fun for the whole family. Discounted admission with the Hochschwarzwald Card.
8. Aha – Dam Wall and Circuit Trail Starting Point
At the western end of Lake Schluchsee lies the dam wall at Aha – an interesting technical monument and at the same time a good starting point for the lake circuit trail. The view from the dam wall across the lake is impressive.
9. Steinwasen Park
The Steinwasen Park in Oberried (approx. 40 min.) combines a wildlife park with adventure playgrounds and one of the longest adventure rope bridges in Europe. Ideal for families with children. Admission included with the Hochschwarzwald Card.
10. Rothaus Brewery in Grafenhausen
Beer lovers should visit the Rothaus Brewery (20 min.). Tours of the traditional brewery and tastings of the legendary Tannenzäpfle are available. The brewery shop offers souvenirs and specialities.
