Winter at Lake Schluchsee is magical. While the lake partly freezes and the surrounding Black Forest woods glitter under snow, the area at around 930 metres offers something for everyone: skiers find slopes nearby, hikers enjoy quiet winter trails, and those looking for relaxation find it in modern spa facilities.
Skiing Nearby: Feldberg, Belchen and Notschrei
Lake Schluchsee itself is too picturesque for slopes, but the best ski areas in the Black Forest are quickly accessible.
Feldberg (1,493 m): Approximately 25 minutes by car – the highest mountain in the Black Forest with the longest runs in the region. Multiple slopes from green to red, often artificially snow-covered. Belchen (1,414 m): Approximately 35 minutes away, a hidden gem among Black Forest ski enthusiasts. The slopes are less crowded than at the Feldberg, and the mountain restaurant with views of the Vosges is world-famous.
Notschrei (1,259 m): Only about 15 minutes from Lake Schluchsee, perfect for beginners and families with gentler slopes and less bustle.
Winter Hiking: Silence and Beauty in the Black Forest
Winter hiking around Lake Schluchsee is an underrated experience. The trails are less busy than in summer, and the lake has a captivatingly tranquil character.
The winter lake circuit trail: Beautiful in winter, but more demanding in snow. Recommendation: The southern section between Aha and the northern shore (about 8–10 km), which is usually better cleared.
Forest hikes to mountain huts: After a leisurely 2 to 3-hour hike through the snow-covered Black Forest woods, you can warm up with mulled wine and Käsespätzle.
Badeparadies Schwarzwald – Wellness in Winter
The Badeparadies Schwarzwald in Titisee-Neustadt, about 20 minutes from Lake Schluchsee, is one of the best wellness destinations in the region. Several heated pools, saunas and wellness areas – the perfect contrast to active winter days.
