Traumblick Schluchsee

Lake Schluchsee is a paradise for hikers. At 765 metres above sea level in the heart of the Upper Black Forest, the lake and its surroundings offer an impressive variety of hiking trails – from leisurely walking routes to challenging mountain tours. When visiting Lake Schluchsee, you should definitely take time for some of these beautiful routes. With the Hochschwarzwald Card, which you receive free of charge at our Traumblick Schluchsee you also have free access to many attractions in the region.

1. The Lake Circuit Trail – A Classic with Spectacular Panoramas

The lake circuit trail is the classic route around Lake Schluchsee and takes you around the entire lake in approximately 18 kilometres. The hike takes about 4.5 to 5 hours and is moderately difficult – perfect for those with some stamina who want to be rewarded with magnificent views.

The trail is at its most beautiful in spring and autumn, when the air is clear and the light falls particularly beautifully over the water. The circuit trail takes you through dense Black Forest woods, along bays and continually reveals new perspectives of the lake. The southern section between Aha and the northern shore is particularly recommended – this is where the most spectacular views unfold.

2. Riesenbühlturm – Observation Tower amid Forest and Rock

The trail to the Riesenbühlturm is worth hiking not only for the destination but also for the route itself. The approximately 8-kilometre circular hike takes 2.5 to 3 hours and is easy to moderate. You ideally start from Aha and follow the forest path to the tower at 883 metres altitude.

The Riesenbühlturm itself is a beautiful wooden observation tower from which, on a clear day, you can see as far as the Feldberg and the Rhine plain.

3. The Feldberg Trail – Mountain Hikers Take Note!

If you are looking for a high-altitude adventure, the Feldberg Trail is just right. At approximately 12 kilometres in length and a walking time of 3.5 to 4 hours, this hike is moderately difficult to challenging and takes you to the highest mountain in the Black Forest – 1,493 metres!

The tour starts from Lake Schluchsee, first leading through typical Black Forest woods and then across alpine meadows to the Feldberg summit. In good weather, you can see from the highest point of the Black Forest all the way to the Alps, the Kaiserstuhl and the Vosges mountains.

4. Hochfirst – An Easily Accessible Hidden Gem

The Hochfirst at 1,191 metres is a somewhat lesser-known but no less beautiful peak. The hike takes about 3 to 3.5 hours and is easy to moderate. At only 9 kilometres in length, it is also a good option for an afternoon.

The views are wonderful, the trail less crowded than to the Feldberg, and if you are lucky, you can spot black storks and other mountain birds from here.

5. Bildsteinfelsen – Geology You Can Touch

The trail to the Bildsteinfelsen is a popular route for anyone wanting to combine geology and nature. At approximately 6 kilometres and a walking time of 1.5 to 2 hours, this hike is easy and perfect for families or as a quick afternoon tour.

The Bildsteinfelsen are imposing granite rock formations that rise from the Black Forest woods and will impress you with their raw, wild beauty.

6. Krunkelbachhütte – Hiking with a Mountain Hut Stop

For anyone wanting to combine hiking with a cosy stop, the route to Krunkelbachhütte is ideal. At approximately 5 to 6 kilometres and around 2 hours of walking, this is an easy hike that is perfect for a leisurely break with Black Forest cherry cake and coffee.

7. Haldenköpfle – Short, Sweet, Wonderful

The Haldenköpfle, at only 3 to 4 kilometres and about 1 to 1.5 hours of walking, is a short but rewarding hike. Despite the short distance, this tour takes you to 850 metres altitude and offers surprising views.
