While the lake partially freezes over and the surrounding Black Forest woods glisten under snow, the region at 765 metres altitude offers variety for every taste: skiers find nearby slopes, hikers enjoy quiet winter trails, and those seeking relaxation will find it in modern wellness facilities.
Skiing Nearby: Feldberg, Belchen and Notschrei
Lake Schluchsee itself is too picturesque for slopes, but the best ski areas in the Black Forest are quickly accessible.
Feldberg (1,493 m): Approximately 25 minutes by car – the highest mountain in the Black Forest with the longest runs in the region. Multiple slopes from green to red, often artificially snow-covered. Winter Hiking: Silence and Beauty in the Black Forest
Winter hiking around Lake Schluchsee is an underrated experience. The trails are less busy than in summer, and the lake has a captivatingly tranquil character.
The winter lake circuit trail: Beautiful in winter, but more demanding in snow. Recommendation: The southern section between Aha and the northern shore (about 8–10 km), which is usually better cleared.
Forest hikes to mountain huts: After a leisurely 2 to 3-hour hike through the snow-covered Black Forest woods, you can warm up with mulled wine and Käsespätzle.
